The GTJ is one of the major routes that crosses the Haut Hura Regional Natural Park!

From north to south of the massif, come along the paths lined with orchids, gentians, majestic fir trees and come across the peaceful Montbéliardes, a fox and perhaps a chamois.

Alternating paths on the ridges, offering a view of the Alps, and paths in the meadows-woods, this route will please you for sure.

For your comfort we have planned nights in hotels and the transfer of luggage at each stage.

The landscape signature of the Jura massif is certainly this shades of green created by the alternation of the dark green of the spruces and the soft green of the meadows!

PROGRAM

Day 01 :  Meet at Métabief (950 m).

Optional transfer from Frasnes TGV or Pontarlier SNCF station.

Day 02 : Metabief – Mouthe (950 m)

You leave the village to climb to the top of Mont d'Or (1419 m). From there the view is far reaching: the summits of Oberland and Valais are opposite. One of the most beautiful views of the Alps!

The descent to Mouthe crosses the Franco-Swiss mountain pastures, all occupied with their massive farm. The day ends at the source of the Doubs, a fine example of the emergence typical of limestone massifs.

Distance: 20 km Elevation: + 640 m; – 640 m Walking time: 6 hours

Day 03 : Mouthe – Chapel of the Woods (1090 m)

Mouthe is renowned for its cold records and for its Olympic champion Fabrice Guy, medalist at the Olympic Games in Albertville (1992).

You start the day by following the valley that joins Chaux-Neuve, where a visit to the jumping boards is a must: thrills guaranteed! Then the path rises gently in the Mont-Noir forest up to the passage to the old mountain pasture lodge of the Près d'Haut to descend to Chapelle des Bois. This stage is an infidelity to the GTJ to follow the GR 5!

Distance: 21 km Elevation: + 400 m; – 250 m Walking time: 5 hours

Day 04 : Chapel of the Woods – Les Rousses (1150m)

Your day begins with an ascent to reach the Roche Champion, the effort is rewarded by the plunging view of the village with its 2 lakes and its peat bog.

The Risoux is the Jura forest par excellence: narrow spruces, popular with luthiers, many lapiaz and a few lumberjack huts. Passage to the village of Les Rousses, watershed line between the Rhine and the Rhône, before joining your accommodation in La Cure.

Distance: 23 km Elevation: + 480 m; – 415 m Walking time: 6 hours

Day 05: Les Rousses – Lajoux (1180m)

After crossing the platelet (the small plateau), you climb into the Massacre forest to pass its highest point, the Crêt Pela (1495 m) from where a view of Mont-Blanc will surprise you. The quiet descent to Lajoux takes the Combe à La Chèvre, populated by …heifers.

In the village of Lajoux you can visit the house of the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park before returning to your accommodation in Le Manon.

Distance: 21 km Elevation: + 450 m; – 430 m Walking time: 5 hours

Day 06: Lajoux – Lelex (890m)

This last stage is an immersion in the heart of the Hautes Combes, the soul of the massif!

It begins by crossing the Platières (1330 m), from where you can admire the Monts Jura chain, the last rampart before diving into Lake Geneva. A break at the Fruitière des Moussieres allows you to observe the production of Comté cheese and taste it! Then the scattered hamlets of Bellecombe offer slender perspectives. And it's the descent to the Valserine...

Distance: 24 km Elevation: + 570 m; – 850 m Walking time: 6 hours

Day 07: end of stay in Lelex, after breakfast

Optional transfer to Bellegarde TGV station or return to Métabief.
