The GTJ is a challenging traverse of the magnificent Jura Mountains. This route was first completed in 1978 and follows much of the route of the famous Transjurassienne ski race. The Jura Mountains are still something of a secret, allowing us to experience true peace and quiet and a glimpse of authentic mountain life. The hilly landscapes are very different from the more jagged mountains of the Alps and have a much more northern feel.
What to expect ?
As this is quite a remote area, accommodation options are limited, but we have selected the most charming and authentic ones, where we can enjoy traditional local food, wine and hospitality. There is full luggage support, so we can travel light with only backpacks – our main bags will be waiting for us on arrival at our accommodation.
Each day we will aim to cover approximately 20-30 kilometers of piste, with a fair amount of ascents and descents, so participants should be able to ski for approximately 6 hours a day, at a good pace. This trip is suitable for those who already have cross-country or Nordic skiing experience and a good knowledge of cross-country skiing techniques, especially snowplows for steeper descents. The “Trans Jura French” trip is perfect for a first cross-country skiing trip in the Jura mountains. It covers approximately 146 km of slopes and 2600 m of ascent/descent. We stay in charming little hotels and hostels along the way, with one night in Switzerland. Due to the nature of the accommodation, the number of single rooms is limited.
